The Wolverines played their second preseason game against the Plains Cowboys. They came out of top, scoring 76 points. Four out of the nine players scored double digits. Senior Kaden Castillo led the way with 18, while seniors Evan Deleon and Trace Goodman also dumped in a few buckets. Deleon had 16 and Goodman had 10. Junior Micah Sanchez had a total of both 11 points and rebounds.

Sophomore JJ Jarmillo also contributed to the Wolverines’ win.

“I did best at working the ball on offense,” Jarmillo said. “I also was good at finding the open guy.”

JJ had a total of 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

“To me, Evan and Kaden stood out in this game, when it came to working on transitioning,” Jarmillo said. “And trying to find Trace down court.”

The Wolverines played Texline two days before going to Plains, which they had little preparation for.

“We didn’t practice on Sunday,” Castillo said. “So we just went out there and played our ball.”

Spectator Lyndsi Martinez saw good things from the team.

“They look great and you can tell they keep themselves busy in the gym,” Martinez said. “They love what they do, and seem determined to do what it takes to be successful this season.”

Next, the Sundown Roughnecks come to town for the Wolverines’ first game on the home court.

“If we focus on our defense, I think it will be a blowout,” Castillo said. “We have way too many weapons for this team, and I’m confident we will beat them.”
