The Crowning of King and Queen

The gym is decorated. The court is bedazzled and looking sharp. The moment everyone has been waiting for is here. It’s time to find out who the Homecoming King and Queen are. The air is filled with anticipation as the announcer says, “This year’s homecoming King is…”

The homecoming King and Queen this year are Halee Toscano and Alex Alvarez. Halee is the daughter of Cassandra and Gabriel Toscano, and Alex is the son of Melissa and Carlos Alvarez.  They have both attended Springlake-Earth their whole lives and are graduating this year.

The announcement of Homecoming Queen and King is always something people look forward to.

“It is always fun to announce who the king and queen is,” Principal Cindy Furr said.

While the announcement is exciting for the whole crowd, it is especially intense for those on court.

“When I heard my name get announced, my heart dropped and just feelings of happiness fled through my body,” Alvarez said.

Halee also was overwhelmed with the news.

“I felt very excited to hear my name get announced that I won homecoming queen,” Toscano said.

Alex reflects back on seeing others be crowned and what that means to him.

“I was so honored and fortunate enough to receive king,” Alaverze said.  “Growing up, you see the older classmen receive king and queen, and you always hope that that will be you one day.  I’m really grateful and thankful to the people that chose me. I really didn’t think it was going to be me.”

I love representing where I come from and who raised and taught me. I think it’s important this year, especially, that I am a true leader and role model to everyone looking at my actions and my decisions because I’m a senior.

Being crowned is an honor for both the King and Queen.

“It feels really deserved because I feel like I’ve been a leader here at school,” Toscano said.  “Especially with the activities I’m involved in because others may look up to me.”

Being able to represent the school is something Alvarez thought was cool.

“To be able to represent not only my class, but the school is the best feeling,” Alvarez said. “I love representing where I come from and who raised and taught me. I think it’s important this year, especially, that I am a true leader and role model to everyone looking at my actions and my decisions because I’m a senior.”

Toscano and Alvarez celebrated after the pep rally by eating with their families and hanging out with their friends, but they are still excited to this day.

“I just feel so honored and blessed,” Alvarez said.
