The Lady Wolverines traveled to Friona Tuesday night to play Wildrodo in their first playoff game.  They showed up to win and lead from the start with the final score being 49-26.  The Lady Wolverines received the gold ball and are Bi-district champs.  They will take on Silverton Friday night at 6 P.M. at Canyon.

“The game was awesome,” Coach Jeri Been Goodman said. “We won a gold ball.”

Senior Sayler Beerwinkle led with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Halee Toscano then totaled 14 points, two rebounds, and one assist.

“The Lady Wolverines work together and put effort into basketball,” junior and filmer Jenna Bridges said. “Teamwork is definitely the thing their the best at.”

Two sophomores also contributed to the playoff win. Taytum Goodman put up 13 points, four rebounds and five assists. Sydney Furr added in six points and five rebounds.

I feel pretty positive, I have a good team.

— Coach Been

“We still need to improve on blocking out and setting up an offense,” Coach Been said. “Our transition offense is awesome and our defense is awesome.  We do need more people to step up when it is their time to play and do their job by putting the ball in the hole.”

Senior Mahalia Delgado and sophomore Jasmine Garcia had two rebounds. Also, sophomore Emma Samaron grabbed three rebounds.

“It was a good fast game.  The other team had nice sportsmanship towards me, so that made it fun,” sophomore Sydney Furr said. “Getting the gold ball to me was a reward for all the early, hard practices we go through.”

Looking forward to the next game Coach Been had some things to say.

“A win of course, I feel like if we play as good of defense as we did Tuesday night we can beat any team around,” Coach Been said.
